The Necessity of Silence and Empty Spaces

Being There (2012, M.A. Reilly)

                          Tomorrow
we shall have to think up signs,
sketch a landscape, fabricate a plan
on the double page
of day and paper.
Tomorrow, we shall have to invent,
once more,
the reality of the world.
- Octavio Paz, "January First"
(Translated by Elizabeth Bishop)

Wishing you silence and vast empty spaces, today.

  3. ah.. stillness.

    via Eckhart Tolle:
It may be the stillness that pervades the world of nature, or the stillness in your room in the early hours of the morning, or the silent gaps in between sounds. Stillness has no form—that is why through thinking we cannot become aware of it.
Note: stillness.. space.. has no form. rhizome vs pyramid. perpetual beta..now. vs. plans, basics,

    grazie dear.

    1. there's so much there in that stillness such provocative language. Such differences between a pyramid and rhizomes is enormous.

  4. I was raised with space--emotional and mental--to do nothing, contemplate whatever I wanted... As an adult, I hung on to that as a right for a long time, but in the last few years I have succumbed to the anti-idleness of too much to do, too noisy a life, too little open time. Your post reminds me that I can reclaim that space and start to dream again. Thank you...

  5. Thank you for the reminder, Mary Ann. My kids call it 'peace and quiet' time. I hope it is something that they will always look for - and be able to find...

    1. Or perhaps you can generate it? Not always easy to do, I know.
