#SOL17: Bad Hombres and Other Tall Tales

Whose the Immigrant?
Who is Donald Trump protecting you from?
My family.

President Donald Trump called on the Department of Homeland Security to "create an office to serve American victims" of crimes committed by immigrants. From CBS News

I.

Warning.
Warning.
I am an immigrant.
My brothers are immigrants.
My son is an immigrant.
We are all immigrants.

II.

Dear non-immigrant neighbors and friends,

Rest easy.

Yes, you are living alongside "immigrants!" But, none of us plan to commit crimes against you or anyone else. In fact, it is more likely that you will commit the crimes, not us. Native born citizens are more likely to commit crimes, than immigrants ( see here) contrary to the erroneous rhetoric by the current president.

But no worries, the president will be spending our tax dollars (you know that pot of money he doesn't contribute to since he proudly pays no taxes) to protect you from us.

Sincerely,
The bad hombres

III.

So many smoke screens in so few days.
Do you ever pause and wonder what is being hidden as the Trump White House produces one executive order after the next at a dizzying pace?

  1. Amen! I am sick of "that guy." He is the "bad hombre." Where did his hatered of immigrants come from? And the positive response to his latest speech baffles me. Do what that he can read from a TelePromptor and keep the snorting and ad lobbing to a minimum.

    1. He is the bad hombre. The bigly orange bad hombre. I think we are a lax-thinking populace and settle easily for whatever is in front of us that is shiny. That is the only way I can make sense of the trump fans.

  2. We are a melting pot, and we wouldn't be the great country we are without our people, coming from all lands. I don't understand and cannot relate to his hatred; hatred is what he seems to be comprised of. It makes it even that more important for all of us to keep our heads on straight, think logically, and give gifts of kindness and love to as many as possible.

    1. Me too, Janie. I love your last bit of advice here: give gifts of kindness and love to as many as possible.
I'm going to work with that today.

  3. Thank you for putting into words my thoughts. I am growing tired of reading the news - and that is indeed a bad thing.
By the way - I love your numbered format.

    1. Thanks Christine for all of these comments. I read the news but not as often as I once did. It feels overwhelming. Not sure why I number but I do.

  4. I am an immigrant as are many of my students and/or their parents. I worry for them because unlike me, they are visible minorities. This administration terrifies me.

    1. Adrienne, it causes me great anxiety. I wonder what will be left after trump and his band of nuts gets through. and what do we make of the mean, mean followers?
