Imagining A to Z: A is for Assemble

A is for Assemble.

File:Robert Rauschenberg's 'Canyon', 1959.jpg

Robert Rauschenberg's 'Canyon' (1959): Assemblage: oil, housepaint, pencil, paper, fabric, metal, buttons, nails, cardboard, printed paper, photographs, wood, paint tubes, mirror string, pillow & bald eagle on canvas.

When I make a collage I assemble bits and pieces from different sources: found papers, scraps of fabric, a twig, a book of matches, newspaper, splatters of paint, batiked paper and set these things that had no business being together inside that which becomes a composition.  Assembling is an art. The spaces between allow me to consider connections that I did not seem to know prior.

Such exercises release the imagination.

Note: In this series of post during the month of April, I am participating in the A to Z blogging challenge, with each day focusing on a letter.  In order to bring some cohesion to this process--releasing the imagination is the focus of each post.

  5. I've never tried to make a collage before. Maybe it's something I should try one day. :-)
